Britannia coins are British bullion coins issued by the Royal Mint in gold since 1987 and in silver since 1997.
The gold Britannia coins contain one troy ounce of gold and have a face value of £100. From 2013 the gold coins have a millesimal fineness of .9999 (or 24 carat gold). Until 2012 the gold coins had a millesimal fineness of .917 (91.7% or 22 carat gold. The non-gold balance was copper until 1989, then silver from 1990.
Gold Britannias also are issued in fractional sizes of ½ oz (£50), ¼ (£25), and 1/10 (£10) of a troy ounce. In 2013 there were also two more additional sizes introduced - a 5-oz coin (£500), and a fractional size of 1/20th oz (£1).
Rosland sells bullion Britannias but also graded Britannias. A graded coin is one that has been assessed by a professional grading service like PCGS or NGC, and assigned a score on the 1-70 Sheldon scale, where 70 is a perfect score. Criteria for the grading include the sharpness of the strike, surface preservation, luster, coloration and visual appeal. The graded coin is then sealed in a tamper-proof acrylic 'slab', which protects and preserves it indefinitely. Read more on grading here.
